No one is born a monster. But I wish some people were. It would make it easier to hate them, to kill them, to forget their dead faces.
ABOUT THE BOOK: Mare Barrow’s blood is red—the color of common folk—but her Silver ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court tries to control. The crown calls her an impossibility, a fake, but as she makes her escape from Maven, the prince—the friend—who betrayed her, Mare uncovers something startling: she is not the only one of her kind.
Pursued by Maven, now a vindictive king, Mare sets out to find and recruit other Red-and-Silver fighters to join in the struggle against her oppressors. But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying to defeat.
Will she shatter under the weight of the lives that are the cost of rebellion? Or have treachery and betrayal hardened her forever?
MY REVIEW: Okay, so I ordered this book but couldn’t wait and read it online. Because I love Victoria Aveyard!! And once I started reading this book, it was freaking hard to put it down. The plot was really nice but I do thing it was missing a little something. The prequel was completely captivating but I think that this book probably missed a little pace. But when I reached the second half, things got really interesting. And I think, we all loved how Mare’s character grew more strength and she definitely became one of our favorite female protagonists. On the other hand, while Cal was always there, his role in the book became very passive. I was really disappointed by that, but then I do think that there is more to that passive role (maybe another betrayal, I have stopped trusting), about which we’ll might know in the following books. Maven, whom we didn’t see much in this book (we only feared him), his that one appearance was so strong which left us with mixed feelings. Even after not being there much, we couldn’t take our minds off Maven and the credit goes to the amazing writing. This is so obvious, that a lot of things are being hidden in this book, and we await to know. The cliffhanger in the end was so beautifully described and we all were really heartbroken by it. BTW, to the ones who haven’t read this book yet, whom do you think dies in the end??… THINK, THINK, THINK, because anyone can betray anyone. And that torturous ending… I cannot even say anything about it. Overall, this book was amazing… I would give it 4.5/5 rating…..
